At the end of the school year can I stay past the end date on my contract?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer that. We house camps/conferences and summer school students immediately after the Spring semester ends. We must have enough time to flip the rooms before the first summer guests arrive. Residents are expected to check out of their academic year rooms no later than 24 hours after completing their final exam for the Spring term. Students who have an exam taking place during the last exam period (the evening of Tuesday, May 7) must be checked out of their rooms no later than 10 am on Wednesday, May 8.
Can first year students apply for parking at Granville Towers?
Yes, all residents can apply for parking at Granville Towers. A link to our waitlist is sent once a student leases. Because of very limited space, we offer to upper-class students first then to first year students mid-spring as space is available. Offers will be made according to placement on the waitlist. Full payment is expected at the time the offer is extended and this is the only means of securing a space. We do not mail parking passes home. They are distributed on move-in day. Can I cook in my room?
Microwave cooking is acceptable, but we can't allow residents to use hot plates or any other appliance with an open heating element. Our on-site eatery, the Agora, has very flexible hours to accommodate any resident. In addition, we also offer a Community Kitchen which residents can access to cook their favorite meals. Cookware and bakeware can be checked out from the East Desk through our Enhancements program.
Can I increase or decrease my meal plan?
The deadline to make changes for the Fall semester is June 1, 2019. Requests to increase meal plans for the Fall semester may be submitted beginning September 3, 2019. Increases may be requested at any time during the semester after that point. Any change requests for the Spring semester may be made between October 15 and October 31, 2019. The change request form will open at 9am on October 15 and will close at 5pm on October 31. Additional requests to increase meal plans for the Spring semester may be submitted beginning January 21, 2020. Prior to move in, meal plan changes are requested through the Leasing Office. After move in, changes are handled by the Business Office.
Can I loft my bed?
No, you may not loft your bed. Our twin XL platform beds are 22 inches off the ground, so there is plenty of storage underneath.
Can I move in early in August?
Only students participating in approved University functions/organizations will be eligible to move in early. The link to request an early move-in can be found at:
Can I nail pictures to the wall?
Yes! You may use thumb tacks and small picture hanging nails to decorate your room. You may not use sticky tape, putty, and hooks to mount items to the wall. Also, you may not mount your television to the wall. A cork strip is installed on the far wall of our traditional double rooms so residents may decorate that side of their room more easily.
Can I request a specific tower?
First year residents are not permitted to submit a tower request; this is a perk reserved for our upper-class residents. Current residents returning to Granville for the upcoming year can participate in our January and March Room Draft events. Current UNC students with upper-class standing in the fall who are leased at Granville may participate in the March Room Draft event.
Do students feel isolated because they live at Granville Towers and not on-campus housing?
Absolutely not! Granville is home to approximately 1,300 students of which, around 75% are first year students. We make every effort to have our residents not only get involved on property through floor and community-wide programming but also on campus. We will let you know of upcoming events that are occurring at both Granville Towers and on campus. We want our residents to meet as many friends as possible, therefore we give them as many resources to accomplish that.
Does Granville offer storage for my belongings over the summer?
Unfortunately, we do not have storage available for residents during the summer.
Does Granville Towers accept financial aid and or scholarship money?
Yes, we do work with students who are receiving financial aid and/or scholarship money. For more information on how to apply to be on our financial aid/scholarship plan (Deferred Payment Agreement), please review our Financial Aid handout on the For You page.
Do I need to have a roommate in mind before I sign the lease?
It is not necessary to know who you want as your roommate and/or suitemate prior to applying to live at Granville or signing a lease. In fact, that part of the process happens after the lease is signed. Once a student has signed the lease, they receive a link to join our RoomSync program, which is where Granville residents can search and select their future roommate and/or suitemate. The RoomSync app will prompt you to complete a questionnaire about your preferences and then shows you your level of compatibility with other future residents based on their responses.
How are rooms/towers assigned?
Incoming first year residents may not request a specific tower. We have a mix of First Year Experience floors and Upperclass floors in each tower. Incoming and current upperclass residents may participate in the Room Draft event where they can select a specific tower and room (based on availability).
How close to campus are you?
Granville Towers is right across the street from UNC. We have the perfect location! We are only a 7-10 minute walk from main campus.
How do I pay my room and board?
Check payments can be made to Granville Towers and mailed to us at: Granville Towers Business Office, 2100 Granville Towers Lane South, Chapel Hill NC 27514. The resident’s name should be listed on the memo line. Payments can also be made online. Fees do apply when paying online: $1.25 for e-check and credit card fees are 3.25%. Amounts due are listed on the lease agreement. Granville Towers does not send statements, invoices, or bills.
How do I secure my spot at Granville Towers?
We use an online leasing process. Prospective residents will submit an online application and pay a one-time, non-refundable $50 application and service fee. The software will then prompt them to e-sign the lease agreement. Once they have completed e-signing, they will be prompted to invite their parent/guardian to apply to serve as the guarantor. The parent/guardian will receive a link through the software to fill out an Application to Serve as Guarantor, and then they will be taken to e-sign the Parental/Sponsor Guaranty. It is important to remember that submitting an application does NOT secure your spot; only a fully executed lease does that.
How does housekeeping work?
Once a week, housekeepers will enter your room to clean your bathroom and will clean the vanity sinks (if the space is clear of resident belongings). Please note that it is the resident's responsibility to take out their room and bathroom trash, clean their own floors, and any other areas in their rooms.
How does laundry work?
There are laundry facilities in each of the three tower basements. It costs $1.25 to wash a load and $1.25 to dry it. Residents will need to download the Speed Queen app on their phones to pay for laundry as well as start the machines. The app will also allow residents to see how many machines are available for use in their tower, as well as monitor how much time is left on a wash/dry cycle.
How does my meal plan work?
Granville Towers offers three different meal plans for Granville residents as well as several non-resident meal plans. A meal plan is included with the rent and cannot be excluded from your lease. The Granville meal plan is just for the Agora; it will not work at dining facilities managed through Carolina Dining Services. The Agora operates as an all-you-care to eat facility, which means that once a resident or customer comes in, they are welcome to visit as many food stations as they would like and return for unlimited seconds. Therefore, the main concept to keep in mind with the meal plans is that they reference the amount of availability the resident has to enter the Agora… not specifically a meal. However, for the sake of instruction, we may refer to “entrances” as “meals.” A more detailed explanation of the meal plans can be found on the Dining page by clicking “Meal Plans.”
How should mail and packages be addressed?
Your address is your room number. For example, if you live in South room 2530, your address will look like the following: Your Name, 2530 Granville Towers Lane South, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. If you live in West 1234, your address will look like this: 1234 Granville Towers Lane West, Chapel Hill NC 27514.
Do I need a guarantor?
Yes, every resident is required to have a guarantor. In the event a guarantor cannot be obtained, we will accept a security deposit equal to the full amount of the lease.
Is there a bus that picks students up from Granville Towers?
Due to our close proximity to classes and location on Franklin Street, we do not offer a shuttle. However, the Point-to-Point (P2P) Express Stop is located in our East parking lot, and this runs daily from 7pm until 4am.
Is there a model room I can see?
We have a Traditional Double model room available to see Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm and Saturday-Sunday from 10am-5pm. Due to high demand for tours during peak times, tour groups may be combined and it may not be possible to take your own measurements/dimensions. Granville provides a list of common room dimensions in the Granville Guide that is distributed during New Student Orientation.
Is there wireless internet in the rooms?
Yes! Granville Towers has wireless internet in resident rooms and two Ethernet ports in each room as well. We encourage all students to bring an Ethernet cord to hook up your computer since this is always the most reliable way of staying connected.
What happens if I am too sick to come down to the Agora to use my meal plan?
If you are ill due to a stomach bug or virus, we recommend that you designate an RA, roommate, or suitemate to assist in bringing food to you. You may select a small meal from the daily menu for your RA, roommate, or suitemate to bring to you. • Authorize your meal to be picked up by filling out the Get Well Meal Form (available from a Dining Manager or Supervisor) which includes your signature - someone else may pick this up for you. • Have your RA, roommate, or suitemate present the completed form and your Granville Towers ID card. The checker will collect the form, swipe your card to deduct a meal and will have a dining manager or supervisor give the designated student a "to go" box. The designated student will also need to present their Granville ID for verification purposes. Their card will only be swiped if they too are having a meal inside the Agora (not to go). • You do not need to call ahead to pick up a traditional sick tray. • Only one form may be obtained at a time and only one boxed meal per form.
What happens if I sign a lease at Granville Towers and then decide to go to school elsewhere?
Our lease allows for your contract to be cancelled without financial penalty as long as you provide us with proof of enrollment at the other school no later than 60 days prior to the lease begin date. This should be sent to Allison Hinson in the Leasing Office at email@example.com.
What happens if I sign a lease at Granville Towers and then I am not accepted to UNC?

What hours is the Agora open?
The Agora, our on-site dining facility, is open the following days and times: Monday-Friday 7am-8pm (7:30pm on Fridays), Saturday-Sunday 10am-7:30 pm, and Late Night Grill (Sunday-Thursday) 8:30pm-11pm.
What should I bring to Granville Towers as well as leave at home

What size are the beds?
All of our beds in Traditional Double and Traditional Single rooms are Twin XL. The Carolinian, Franklin, Rameses and Granview rooms have Full XL mattresses. The platform on which the mattress rests offers almost two feet of clearance which will allow residents a lot of flexibility with storage of items.
What type of security does Granville Towers offer?
Security cameras are in high-traffic common areas. Also, the Operations Manager lives on property, as well as our Assistant General Manager and two Community Directors. The South Desk is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We have security guards that patrol the property throughout the night. In addition, all exterior doors, basement access doors, and laundry rooms are locked 24/7 and require key fob access. Each student is assigned a key to their room and it is their responsibility to keep their space secure.
Where can I rent a minifridge and microwave for my room?
Granville does not have its own appliances to rent out, but you may rent a Microfridge unit from Collegiate Concepts® at www.collegefridge.com.
Who is my roommate?
You will receive your roommate assignment on July 18th or July 19th, 2019 by email. The email will include your room assignment, your roommate, your roommate's contact information, your suitemates' names, and their contact information (if available). Please note that since the process involves a considerable number of outgoing emails, we allocate two days to distribute room assignments.
